About me, Moxie Reins
Hi, I’m Moxie. It’s nice to meet you! Thanks for being here.
I’m here, existing as an author because I have two crazy author friends who told me that I needed to write my own book. I had fallen into reading in the romance genre purely by accident circa in 2021, and through that I’ve met so many incredible people within the bookish community.
Two people I’m eternally grateful for having met, who I now consider friends, are authors AK Landow and Maggie Rawdon (if you haven’t read their books, you should!). For months and months and independent of each other, AK and Maggie told me that I needed to write my own book, and that instead of writing reviews for their books (and for other books that I was reading), that I needed to write my own book. I told them they were crazy. That it was one thing to read and review, but another to write my own story – I had no stories to tell.
They told me I was wrong.
And that I needed to write my own book, to tell my own stories.
So after almost 6 months of them hounding me, in March of 2023 I put fingers to keyboard and began writing. It took me over 2 years to get to the point of finishing and publishing my first book. But here we are. The funny thing is, the words flowed so freely once I sat down, and I’d barely written a quarter of my first book (which funny enough was not the first book I ended up publishing) when books 2, 3 and 4 from the same series appeared in my head. So what does one do? Of course you start writing those stories too. So perhaps that also had something to do with why it took me so long to finish my first book? Maybe? But that’s alright. One doesn’t tame a creative mind, you just let it do its thing and go along for the ride.
Speaking of… that’s how I got sidetracked and lassoed into what ultimately became the first book that I published in the fall of 2025. What started off as football banter and a joke between me and author friends Carolina Jax and Ryan Marie, ultimately lead to a collaborative effort that held me accountable and forced me to finally hit “publish”. So even though my first published book wasn’t the first book that I wrote, I just let the creativity and fun flow.
When I began writing, I finally understood what my author friends referred to when they said that the characters took control of the story, because since I began writing, I feel like I’m just the vessel in which my characters do what they do. So since you’re here, I hope that you like what has come from the recesses of my mind (most of those things have frankly surprised me!) and the journey that my characters and the worlds I’ve created have taken me on. It’s been a fun adventure for me, and I hope that was your experience too.
Also worth noting, when I began writing, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I mean, I had some ideas between my non-book profession and my serious reading addiction, but I suppose that’s how most authors and especially Indie authors feel when they start out. But I’m so lucky to have a group of amazing author and bookish friends from around the world who have encouraged and helped me. It takes a village! So I wanted to thank all of them and give a big shout-out to all of them – you know who you are!
But I also say that I didn’t know what I was doing when I started because when I sat down to write, I just wrote what felt right and what spoke to me. I had no idea if anyone else would like the words that I produced, but there’s always the hope that those words would at least resonate with one person. So if you’re that one, I’m so happy we found each other. Now please go tell your friends, too! Lol.
A few random things about me:
- English is actually my second language and when I moved to the US as a child, I only knew 3 words of English
- I’m Scandinavian but reside in upstate New York with my husband, 2 kids, 2 cats, and horses
- I am an equestrian through and through and I try to ride every week
- The romance genre is my preferred genre of books to read, but I have hundreds of design and marketing books as well as horse-related books and autobiographies in my library
- I only started drinking coffee in my mid-to-late 30s and am since obsessed
- I’m an Aries
- Having a cool breeze blow through my hair is one of the most peaceful
feelings in the world - I’m a glass-half-full type of person, and I always try to find the good in every situation. Being happy and enjoying all of the little things is what I strive for every day. As the saying goes: A negative mindset won’t lead to a positive life.
- I’m a total homebody, but I also love going out and on adventures … when it suits me lol
- In 2023 I got into watching football, since then I love to talk football specifically with my author friends, and talk smack to them about their teams that are losing (don’t worry, they do the same to me! Carolina Jax, this is you.) My favorite teams are the San Francisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills.
- I love the beach, but I don’t like to go too far into the water, unless it’s Caribbean waters! That’s where sharks live. I don’t need to go in their domain.
- I believe in karma and manifesting your own destiny
- My favorite quote is an Arabian proverb: “The air of heaven is that which blows between a horse’s ears.”
- I refused to join TikTok for the longest time, but I threw in the towel when my author friend Maggie Rawdon literally threatened me with withholding footage of my favorite football player, Nick Bosa of the 49ers… I mean, those thighs! Who wouldn’t join the Tok of the Tik for those?
